Business: Nyenrode starts Europe India Institute

Breukelen, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Nyenrode plans to start a Europe India Institute. With this institute, the renowned business university in Breukelen wants to stimulate the academic and practical development of knowledge on business in India, trade relationships between the two regions and themes such as business spirituality, food processing logistics, outsourcing and offshoring.

The foundation of the Europe India Institute alongside the existing Europe China Institute fits within Nyenrode's goals for placing a stronger focus on up and-coming economies and their unique corporate cultures and structures.

Mrs. Vidhya Sampath will be appointed as director of the Europe India Institute currently in the process of being established. Sampath is a board member of the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce & Trade and is involved in the organization of the Amsterdam India Festival 2008 which will be held in November this year. Mr. Eric Niehe, former Ambassador of the Netherlands to India, will be Chairman of the Board of the Europe India Institute.

Prof. Dr. Bert de Groot, Rector Magnificus and Dean at Nyenrode: "When I visited India late last year with some ninety students for case studies and company tours, it became even more clear to me that we have a great deal to learn from one another regarding methods of management and doing business. This conviction was further reinforced when former president of India Dr. Abdul Kalam visited Nyenrode in December and received an honorary doctorate. Since India is expected to be the third largest economy in the world by 2040 and the Netherlands is already one of the largest investors in the subcontinent, the necessity for this type of institute is crystal clear. In the past year, we have worked hard to develop an academic network in India, and I have great confidence in this network's potential to serve as an excellent foundation for the development of our Europe India Institute in the years to come."

The launch of the Europe India Institute is welcomed by the Indian embassy in The Hague. The Netherlands Indian Chamber of Commerce and Trade (NICCT) is supporting the institute. Rutger Koopmans, Chairman of the NICCT: "Despite the long history of economic relations between India and the Netherlands, the Netherlands are still lagging behind in trade with and investments in India. Although we are one of the largest trade partners, we really need to create greater awareness and better understanding in both countries especially as the potential for business co-operation is enormous. The NICCT strongly believes that this Nyenrode initiative will help in reaching those goals."

In preparation for the India Festival in November of this year, the Institute will further expand on its plans and announce these to the public.
