Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse), June 30 PRNewswire-AsiaNet - comScore, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released findings on the Asia-Pacific market from its report "The State of the Global Internet with a Focus on Asia," which will be presented via free Webcast from Singapore and Japan in July.

During the past year, the Asia-Pacific Internet audience (at home and work locations among users age 15 and older) grew 14 per cent to 319 million visitors in April 2008, outpacing the growth of all other worldwide regions. The strongest growth occurred in India, which surged 27 per cent to more than 28 million Internet users, followed by China which grew 14 per cent to more than 102 million visitors.

Taiwan, Malaysia and New Zealand also achieved double-digit growth. Meanwhile, more developed Internet markets such as Japan (3 per cent) and Singapore (4 per cent) experienced modest gains.

The presentation will include key insights on recent trends in Asia and other international markets that are shaping the global landscape of the Internet. Among these are the following:
- Though each of the top 10 global properties is based in the United States, each one sources the majority of its audience from outside the U.S.
- Half of the top 20 properties in the Asia-Pacific region are locally-owned entities.
- Although Google Sites and Yahoo! Sites combined to capture the majority of search share in the Asia-Pacific region, five of the top 10 search properties are regional engines, including China's Baidu.com and Korea's NHN Corporation (Naver.com).
- Internet users in Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia spend the most time online in the region, but still spend less time than the worldwide average.
- While Facebook.com is the leading social networking site worldwide, Friendster.com is the top social networking site in the Asia-Pacific region.

"The State of the Global Internet with a Focus on Asia" will be presented in English on July 2 from Singapore and in Japanese on a soon-to-announced date in July from Japan. For more information and to register please see the information below.

Technology: comScore releases Asia-Pacific search rankings for April 2008

Google and Yahoo! Sites Lead the Region in Search Volume while China's Leading Search Property Baidu.com Ranks Third

Singapore, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - comScore, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its ranking of the top search properties in the Asia-Pacific region based on data from its comScore qSearch 2.0 service, revealing that Google Sites led the region with 39.1 percent of all searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites (24 percent) and Baidu.com (16.7 percent). comScore will provide a more comprehensive overview of Internet usage in the Asia-Pacific region during a free, live webinar entitled, "The State of the Global Internet - with a Focus on Asia" on Wednesday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. SGT (GMT +08:00) (details below).

"Because Google and Yahoo! have a strong presence in many Asia-Pacific countries, they account for the majority of searches conducted in the overall region," said Jack Flanagan, comScore executive vice president. "However, there are several strong, local country search engines that also play a significant role in the region. Most notably, the dominant search engine in China, Baidu.com, accounts for one out of every six searches in Asia-Pacific notwithstanding the fact that its users are primarily from China."

Five of the Top Ten Search Properties are Region-based Engines

Although Google Sites and Yahoo! Sites captured the majority of the search share in the region, five of the top ten search properties are local country entities, including China's Baidu.com (16.7 percent) and Korea's NHN Corporation (5.3 percent), which owns search engine Naver.com. Chinese properties Alibaba.com Corporation, Tencent Inc., and Sohu.com Inc., which host Internet-search functionality although they are not strictly search engines, rounded out the list of key local players.

China Accounted for the Most Searches among Asia-Pacific Countries

More than 82 million Chinese Internet users conducted 6.2 billion total searches in April, an average of 75 searches per searcher. Interestingly, Japan's 60 million Internet searchers conducted nearly the same number of searches (6.1 billion) as the 82 million Chinese searchers, a result of the heavier search volume per person in Japan (102.6 searches per searcher). Korea (104 searches per searcher) and Singapore (101 searches per searcher) also exhibited notably heavy search volume per person.

comScore releases Top Japan Web Site rankings for February 2008

Tokyo, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - comScore, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its February 2008 rankings of the largest and fastest-growing Internet properties and site categories in Japan, based on data from the comScore World Metrix audience measurement service.

Valentine's Day prompted growth in the retail-food and fragrances/cosmetics categories as women sent gifts to men to celebrate the holiday, while the government category grew as people prepared for tax season.

Mozilla was the fastest growing site in Japan, as it was in many countries around the world, due to the release of their updated Firefox browser.

Traditionally February is a month when many musicians release new albums in Japan, leading several music information sites to experience increases, including Utapmap.com, Oricon.co.jp, and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Yahoo! Sites continued their strong lead as the top web property in the Japanese market.

"Valentine's Day has traditionally been celebrated in Japan with the women giving men gifts, especially chocolates, a practice that is slightly different from other parts of the world," said Maru Sato, Managing Director of comScore Japan. "As a result, traffic to retail-food sites saw a sharp increase for the month as people took advantage of the convenience of online shopping and ordering."

comScore releases top Japan web site rankings for January 2008

Education, Career, Automotive and Real Estate Sites See Gains to Start the New Year

Tokyo (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - comScore, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its January 2008 rankings of the largest and fastest-growing Internet properties and site categories in Japan, based on data from the comScore World Metrix audience measurement service.

January saw increased visitation to education, career, automotive and real estate sites as many people in Japan focused their Internet activity on planning for the New Year.

Several news sites, including J-Cast.com, Sponichi.com, and Jiji.com, saw significant gains in January, with elections in Osaka, the Sumo wrestling tournament, and the Chinese food scandal being major topics in the news.

"The New Year marks a time when the people of Japan begin planning and looking ahead, especially to the beginning of the new school and job year in April," said Maru Sato, Managing Director of comScore Japan. "Real estate sites also saw gains as visitors sought housing information for both buying and selling."
