Squidcast debuts new service for transmitting high-quality video

Based on Collaborative Relay Network, it's the only secure platform optimized for the private interchange of high-quality personal media

Palm Desert, Calif. and San Fancisco, Calif. (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - DEMO 08 -- Squidcast, Inc. today unveiled a new service that enables consumers to send friends and family high-definition personal video and other high-quality content over the Internet for free. Squidcast recipients can download or stream content at quality levels dramatically higher than what is currently possible. It utilizes the capabilities of its Collaborative Relay Network, the only secure platform optimized for the private interchange of high-quality personal media.

Current offerings, such as email and video sharing Web sites, cannot offer similar capabilities without charging users a premium because infrastructure costs are too high.

"Personal video is going high-definition, yet consumers have no way of sending movies to friends and family without compromising quality," said Daniel Putterman, founder and chief executive officer of Squidcast, Inc. "For the first time, users can experience personal media over the Internet without compromising quality."

The Collaborative Relay Network is a form of cloud computing that temporarily utilizes small amounts of end-user storage and bandwidth to form a personal distribution network. The system uses advanced cryptographic and self-healing technologies to provide a service that is highly available, secure, and always on. The design of the platform dramatically reduces operating expenses compared with traditional hosted systems.

"Squidcast has developed a unique way to transmit high-quality personal multimedia," said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO conferences. "There is huge demand for sending high-quality personal video and Squidcast solves this problem."

The service is launching in beta simultaneously in the United States and Japan.
