Sonus unveils Centralized Call Routing Database solution

Barcelona, and Westford, Mass., (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Today at Mobile World Congress (Booth #2E58 & 2E66) in Barcelona, Spain, Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider IP-voice infrastructure solutions, showcased its Centralized Call Routing Database.

Demonstrating its commitment to wireless operators around the globe, Sonus Networks' Centralized Call Routing Database answers wireless network operators demands for advanced IP solutions that drive network efficiency and streamline the rollout of network expansions.

"Mobile operators around the globe are addressing consumers' insatiable appetite for wireless services and increased connectivity. With flat-rate pricing plans and increasing competition, network efficiency is a prime concern in the mobile industry," said Vikram Saksena, chief technology officer, Sonus Networks. "Sonus is continually advancing its mobility solutions to improve wireless networks efficiency, which translates into valuable cost savings."

Sonus' Centralized Call Routing Database leverages Sonus PSX(TM) Policy Server, which allows mobile operators to consolidate routing decisions in a central location instead of provisioning each individual mobile switching center (MSC). It delivers enhanced network performance and efficiency by providing mobile operators with "transcoder-free operation" (TrFO). By eliminating the need to convert signals between disparate mobile networks, network operators free additional network capacity.

"Simplicity is a key component in reducing wireless network costs. By centralizing the routing intelligence in a network, Sonus' solution reduces the multiple points of potential failure in traditional networks and provides a logical and streamlined network architecture," said Stephane Teral, Principal Analyst, Service Provider VoIP, IMS and Mobile Infrastructure with Infonetics. "This scalable and reliable architecture is especially critical when the mobile call is routed between multi-vendor mobile switching centers. Interoperability is essential in the wireless world and Sonus has provided a solution that supports this, while reducing costs."

The Sonus Centralized Call Routing Database solution utilizes Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and can be deployed in both CDMA and GSM-based networks Sonus Mobility Solutions are field proven in the world's largest mobile networks and seamlessly integrate with Home Location Registers (HLRs) to determine the location of the mobile user initiating the call and efficiently route calls to the end destination.

Today, Sonus' industry-leading IP wireless core network solutions carry more than 13 billion minutes of IP voice traffic, three times more than any other IP voice equipment provider. The Sonus Centralized Call Routing Database solution is available now.
