Technology: NTT Com wins Telemark's Top Award for Data VPN

Tokyo - Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/ - NTT Communications (NTT Com) today announced that its global data network services have won the Platinum Award for ranking highest in terms of overall customer satisfaction in the latest "Voice of the Customer: Global Data VPN" report issued on April 24, 2008 Telemark Services of the United Kingdom.

The company earned its first-ever Platinum Award by receiving the highest cumulative score overall. Eight categories are measured by the survey: Indispensable to Customer, Top 10 Customer Priorities, Meeting Requirements, Pricing, Network Installation, Network Operation, Customer Support and Billing.

NTT Com also was presented a Diamond Award for its top ranking in Meeting Requirements.

The report is based on the results of 749 interviews of IT managers of multinational companies.

Eight global operators were considered for awards: AT&T, BT, Cable & Wireless, Orange Business, T-Systems, Telefonica, Verizon Business and NTT Com, the only Asian candidate.

"Telemark uses a Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) to measure perceived operator performance. The overall CSI measures the customer experience of the total service provider's Data VPN offerings against a set of customer requirements. NTT Com occupies the number-one position, in the league table that compares eight global operators for overall customer satisfaction, because it captured the hearts and minds of Data VPN service users more successfully than its rivals, thereby scoring the highest overall CSI," said Janet Watkin, Director at Telemark Services.

NTT Com is committed to continuously raising the quality of its global services by sharing know-how with partners worldwide. The company holds the annual Arcstar Carrier Forum in Tokyo to gather partner telecoms from Asia and other regions and consider ways to upgrade private network-related services offered jointly under the Arcstar brand.

NTT Com joins new submarine cable consortium linking Asia, US

Tokyo - Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet - NTT Communications (NTT Com) today announced that it signed a construction and maintenance agreement to participate in a consortium building a new optical fiber cable system - the Trans-Pacific Express Cable Network (TPE) - that will link Japan, Mainland China, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

TPE, a new submarine cable network that will use cutting-edge technology, is being built jointly by a consortium that now consists of NTT Com, AT&T, China Netcom (CNC), China Telecom (CT), China Unicom, Chungwha Telecom (CHT), KT and Verizon Business (Verizon).

In the fourth quarter of 2006 the six original consortium parti, cipants - CNC, CT, China Unicom, CHT, KT and Verizon - began constructing the southern route, which will direct link the United States and Asia, including Mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan, when it is scheduled to become operational in August 2008. The northern route transiting Japan will be developed under the project's second phase; the Japan-Asia section will become operational during the first quarter of 2009, followed by the Japan-U.S. section, completion of which is expected in early 2010.

The cable network will be more than 18,000 kilometers in length and have a maximum transmission capacity of 5.12 terabits per second.

NTT Com will establish and fully manage a new landing station in Japan at a site located near the Tokyo metropolitan area. The landing station will provide flexible connectivity to other major submarine cables in the region.

International communication-related traffic - such as Internet, voice, video and data - has been growing at an exceptional rate over the past few years. TPE will enhance NTT Com's existing ability to provide international capacity within the Asia-Pacific and trans-Pacific markets. NTT Com continues to deliver reliable services and meet customer's increasing demand for voice, video, and data communication.

NTT Com to establish representative office in Moscow

Tokyo Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that it will establish a physical presence in the Russian market by opening a representative office in Moscow on April 1.

The office, which will start with a staff of five, will engage primarily in researching the Russian telecommunications market and promoting NTT Com's wide variety of services for enterprise customers.

According to Kazuyoshi Terada, Vice President of Business Strategy, Global Business Division: "The NTT Communications Moscow Representative Office will strengthen NTT Com's ability to develop and serve multinational enterprise customers who require high-quality one-stop ICT solutions and network resources in the Russian market."

Russia has become an extremely attractive market for multinational corporations due to its rapid economic growth in recent years.

Its GDP in 2007 grew 7.6 %, led largely by non-tradable services and goods for the domestic market, as opposed to oil and mineral extraction and exports in recent years.

To meet the rising demand for network connection between the Far East and Europe, NTT Com and TransTelecom Company CJSC, Russia's leading backbone telecom operator, formed a partnership in February 2007 to establish a 500km high-capacity undersea fiber-optic cable.

The Hokkaido-Sakhalin Cable System (HSCS) has the capability of transmitting data at up to 640 gigabits per second between Ishikari, Hokkaido in Japan and Nevelsk, Sakhalin in Russia.
