Heidrick & Struggles adds new partner to Life Sciences and Consumer Practices in Japan

Tokyo (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSII), the world's premier executive search and leadership consulting firm, today announced that Walter L. Ames has joined the firm's Life Sciences and Consumer Practices as a Partner, based in the Tokyo office. Ames specializes in search work for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and diagnostic companies; he also conducts searches in the consumer goods, retail and entertainment industries.

"Walt has lived and worked in Japan on seven different occasions for a total of more than 20 years. Ames, 61, joins Heidrick & Struggles from another global executive search firm where he was a member of the Executive Committee, Managing Director of the Tokyo Office and Regional Head of North Asia. Previously he was a Partner in the Los Angeles office of another global search firm, after beginning his executive search industry career in 1995 in the Tokyo office of a global search firm.

Prior to that Ames was an Associate Professor of anthropology at Brigham Young University. He also served for three years in Nagoya, Japan, as President of the Japan Nagoya Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints.
Earlier, Ames founded and was President of Monitor Company Japan, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based strategy consulting firm. He also served as a Manager with Bain & Company, where he was among the three founders of the Tokyo office.

Ames is Co-chairman of the Foreign Direct Investment Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and serves on the National Advisory Council of the College of Social Sciences at Brigham Young University.

He earned a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, a Ph.D. and master's degree in anthropology from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Brigham Young University.
