Business: WiMAX Forum debuts new certified training course

WiMAX Forum Global Congress 2008

Portland, Ore. (BUSINESS WIRE) - The WiMAX Forum today introduced its new certified training course, the WiMAX Forum Core Network Engineer Certification Boot Camp, the first of which will be held during the WiMAX Forum Global Congress in Amsterdam from June 16-19, 2008. The training session will provide hands-on experience with WiMAX core-network equipment while providing the WiMAX ecosystem with verifiably trained and qualified staff from the only training course series endorsed by the WiMAXForum.

The network engineer-focused training session was designed to make it easy for operators to equip themselves with the skills they need for successful WiMAX core network implementation while reducing their risk with quality training that has been created by industry experts. The environment in which these courses are taught also reinforces the standardization of WiMAX technology and promotes knowledge sharing among participants and operators, which helps fuel the WiMAX market momentum and benefits the entire industry.

"The WiMAX Forum continues to see increased interest and a demand for WiMAX Forum certified training programs," said Scenna Tabesh, director of marketing communications for the WiMAX Forum. "We are kicking off our first global trade show event with this new training session to meet the needs of the WiMAX ecosystem as network engineers increasingly become tasked with building WiMAX Forum Certified networks around the world."

DoceoTech developed the course curriculum and has licensed the course through its global network of WiMAX Forum Certified? Training partners. Through tutorials, case studies, and the use of lab equipment from Wichorus and OPNET, students will learn how to design the core of a WiMAX network over a four-day period. Upon successful completion of knowledge and practical certification exams, students will be designated WiMAX Forum Core Network Engineers, with their personal certification number.

"The WiMAX Forum Certified Training program offers WiMAX operators training choices that were developed to help meet their business needs when rolling out WiMAX networks and services," said John Swart, president of DoceoTech. "Just as the WiMAX Forum has been the driving force toward interoperability and certification of WiMAX equipment, the organization is also providing high-quality, comprehensive training for operator personnel to ensure that global harmonization of the WiMAX ecosystem doesn't end with equipment development."

Technical personnel who engage in the WiMAX Forum Certified Training programs will gain skills that are applicable to a variety of vendor's equipment and prepare them for building a network that meets these global ecosystem interoperability standards.

Additional WiMAX Forum Certified Training courses available at WiMAX Forum Global Congress include: WiMAX Explained - This two day course introduces both technical and non technical aspects of WiMAX to enable the delegate to fully understand how it fits into the future of wireless communications.

WiMAX: Technology & Applications - This one day course introduces both technical and non-technical aspects of WiMAX to enable the delegate to fully understand how this important new technology fits into the future of wireless communications.

"The WiMAX Forum seeks to promote WiMAX as the standard wireless technology of choice for broadband wireless operators and part of that promotion is ensuring that the WiMAX community has high-quality training available to a global audience, for deployment of efficient WiMAX networks by skilled personnel," added Tabesh. "Hundreds of students have been certified as WiMAX Forum RF Network Engineers through this program and we are now certifying that core-network engineers have the complementary set of skills and experience."
