LexisNexis(R) appoints new managing director in India LexisNexis Butterworths expands to meet needs of growing legal, tax and regulatory market

New Delhi, India (BUSINESS WIRE) - LexisNexis, a leading global provider of business information solutions today announced that John Atkinson has been named Managing Director for LexisNexis Butterworths India. Effective immediately, he will be based in New Delhi and report directly to Doug Kaplan, CEO of LexisNexis Asia Pacific.

Atkinson joined LexisNexis in 2005 as Managing Director of LexisNexis Asia, which included oversight of the company's Indian business that has experienced substantial growth due to changing business and legal trends. As Managing Director he will be responsible for meeting expanding customer needs brought about by a growing economy, globalization and a need to streamline processes. LexisNexis, as part of its global expansion strategy aims to be the number one print and electronic, legal, tax and regulatory publisher in India, Atkinson is responsible for driving this initiative.

Known in India as LexisNexis Butterworths, the company has developed a strong reputation for its premium law, taxation and regulatory publications. Today, LexisNexis has offices in New Delhi and Chennai and a third more recently, in Mumbai.

Atkinson has extensive experience in information and technology-based organizations throughout Asia. Prior to LexisNexis, Atkinson was Executive Director of GAVS Information Services Pvt Ltd, an IT and Business Process Outsourcing company. Earlier he was the Chief Executive Officer of Asia Converge Pte Ltd, a joint venture between the Singapore Stock Exchange, DBS and OCBC that focused on Business Process Outsourcing for the Securities market.

Formerly, Atkinson spent 17 years with Reuters based in Sweden, the UK, the Arabian Gulf, the Philippines, India and Singapore. He was responsible for significant growth and success of Reuters India Limited during his time as Managing Director based in Mumbai in the late 1990's.
