Business: DHL Express Asia-Pacific goes live with Quintiq planning solution

'S-Hertogenbosch (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Singapore is first country in phased regional rollout of Comprehensive quintiq parcel and express planning solution

By completing the installation of its Parcel and Express Planning Solution at DHL Express Singapore, Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today reached the first milestone in a major project that will help strengthen DHL's Express pick-up and delivery services across Asia Pacific.

Quintiq APS will ultimately provide all DHL Express operations throughout Asia-Pacific with highly flexible, customized advanced planning and scheduling capabilities for their courier dispatching processes, in their overall express parcel services. DHL can thereby further improve its customer service quality and also reduce its carbon footprint.

Initially focusing on utilizing the Quintiq solution for parcel pick up, it will integrate delivery functions in the coming months.

Development of the Quintiq solution for DHL Express in Malaysia is now underway, with implementation expected to be completed during Q2, 2008.

India, China, Hong Kong, Australia and other countries in the region are scheduled to go live through the rest of the year and early 2009.

Impressive preliminary results
Already during the implementation phase the Quintiq solution has proved effective at enabling the company to improve dispatch performance.

"The kind of improvement that we have already seen in dispatching efficiency is a direct result of the increased visibility and automation provided by the Quintiq solution," said Oliver Facey, VP Operations Programs Asia Pacific at DHL Express.

"Although the solution has only just gone live, we are very pleased and encouraged by these preliminary results. We expect that these and other efficiencies gained over the short and long term will enable DHL Express to sustain efficient operations, lighten the workload of our planners and improve their productivity."

"Quintiq has shown capable of delivering highly reliable planning support for the Asia Pacific region, with close collaboration with our internal IT and Business groups."

Easy, Speedy Implementation, Despite Complex Environment
The Quintiq solution implementation project at DHL Express Singapore can be considered highly successful on many fronts: the positive preliminary results; the speed of the project, which took just a little over six months; and the relative ease with which the Quintiq solution was integrated with DHL Express Singapore's existing management applications.

Victor Allis, CEO at Quintiq commented: "The complexity of the technical environment at DHL Express Singapore presented Quintiq with a significant challenge. Nevertheless, because it is an open and highly flexible solution, we were able to easily integrate Quintiq with all necessary existing systems, configure the solution to support the great number of data feeds in and out, and work with the long-distance data communication lines that links DHL Express Singapore with its far-flung market."

The Singapore and wider Asia-Pacific project echoes a similar, ongoing implementation of the Quintiq solution for DHL Express in Europe and is part of a global contract that allows DHL to use Quintiq's advanced planning and scheduling solutions across the globe.

"This coverage will effectively establish Quintiq as the worldwide standard for advanced planning and scheduling of dispatch services." added Victor Allis, CEO of Quintiq.

The company reported that revenues grew 84 percent compared to 2006, and it holds strong expectations that 2008 will be another year of significant growth.

"With Quintiq marking its 10th anniversary this year, our philosophy of listening carefully to companies' needs and developing market-leading technology and solutions for them is now paying off in terms of a fast-growing, loyal customer base of more than 210 implementations for some 90 brands who rely on the value adding solutions we provide", said Dr. Victor Allis, CEO of Quintiq.

"We look forward to continuing to build our market presence and to working with our partners to bring ever-more value to customers in a wide range of industries", Dr. Allis added.

Growth on a Firm Footing
Expansion of existing projects and the addition of new customers were both responsible for the extraordinary revenue growth Quintiq enjoyed over the past year. New Quintiq customers include TNT Express and DHL Express, for worldwide solutions, ThyssenKrupp Steel (Germany), PSA HNN (Belgium), InBev (Europe-wide), NAVCanada, FirstGroup (covering four British rail companies), Brussels Airport, Brink's (EMEA), Waitrose (UK) and Aluar (Argentina). Strong Partnerships, More Extensive Resources
Last year, Quintiq was selected as the APS Technology Partner for DHL's Innovation Center and it expanded its work with Capgemini, establishing a new global alliance with the leading implementation company.

In sync with the addition of new customers and anticipated growth through 2008 and beyond, Quintiq last year established new offices in Australia, China, and Finland and opened its second German office, in Munich.

Looking forward to 2008, Quintiq is readying itself for continued growth by moving its headquarters to a new facility in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, doubling its available space in May this year.

Quintiq establishes regional SE Asian headquarters in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced the opening of its regional head office for Southeast Asia.

The new office, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, will enable Quintiq to address the growing market opportunities throughout the region and will support the company's rapidly developing Southeast Asian customer base. It will allow Quintiq to mobilize its deep experience towards meeting the needs of the logistics, workforce, aviation and manufacturing sectors in the region.

The new office is an addition to Quintiq's existing Asia Pacific development centre, also located in Kuala Lumpur. Quintiq has already hired more than 35 people in the last year in the development centre and is set to double this by the end of 2008 reaching 70 employees.

This initiative comes at a promising time for APS in Southeast Asia. Increasing investor confidence in the region and growing demand among developing Asian markets mean that businesses are now facing unprecedented competitive pressures.

A recent market research report indicates that the ASEAN logistics market is expanding rapidly due to growth in consumer markets, liberalisation of trade and low-cost offerings in the region.

Operating in an environment of high expectations tempered by great uncertainty, businesses must make it their priority to ensure maximum agility and resilience throughout their supply chains. Asia still shows a growing demand for specialized logistics services and due to swelling oil prices a need for new cost-saving measures to stay competitive.

"To compete in the emerging flat-world economy, companies in this region must adapt and cope with global market complexities far beyond their traditionally local experience," says Sanjay Nair, Managing Director Southeast Asia at Quintiq. "Quintiq is uniquely capable of providing the advanced technology that is needed to satisfy increasingly rigorous and dynamic customer demands and thrive in complex business environments. Our advanced planning, scheduling and supply chain management solutions support business growth in even the most competitive markets without requiring additional investment in resources, providing our Southeast Asian customers with a vital competitive edge and the opportunity for higher profitability."

"With successful implementations of our planning and scheduling solutions at leading logistics, aviation, metals and manufacturing companies in Southeast Asia and around the world, Quintiq has already laid a firm foundation from which to expand its regional reach" added Coen Verberk, Director Southeast Asia at Quintiq.

The right solutions for the region

The logistics business is ever changing and always challenging. Well- managed logistics services today are very different from the models of the previous period. They are carefully thought-out solutions that deliver real business value.

Quintiq's experience in helping logistics businesses optimize their operations throughout the complex supply chains in diverse market environments is ideal for the widespread logistics establishments in Southeast Asia. Quintiq combines industry specific solutions with generic planning and scheduling components that create a 100% fit solution within each specific project.

InBev opts for Quintiq for European roll out of transport planning

Hertogenbosch (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Quintiq has been selected by InBev, the world's leading brewer, to manage the complex first line distribution all over Western Europe. The Quintiq planning system will have to combine Full Truck Load (FTL) and Less than Truck Load (LTL) between plants, ramps, sorting centres and customers. The first implementation is to commence in Germany. In Germany alone there are 100.000 of these trips expected per year starting from 5 different plants.

One of the major challenges is to get a good integration between outbound (towards the customers) and inbound (empties recovery). The solution will have to support carrier allocation, driving regulations and continuous moves. The planning application will provide an automatic scheduler that can generate a reasonable first solution base and a flexible and transparent environment for a planner to further interact with the planning. The planning horizon will be between 24 and 48 hours.

The main objectives for InBev are to optimize the transportation cost, increase synergy between inbound and outbound flows and a dynamic planning of distribution lanes and carriers.

Patrick Mullie, Transport Manager, Logistic development Western Europe at InBev comments: "InBev has opted for Quintiq because of its flexibility in dealing with country specific details and the ease of configuration, which gives InBev the possibility to easily adapt to changing market conditions."

Ordina Belgium is the implementation partner. The project is planned to go live in April 2008.

Reduction of carbon footprint at TNT Express

Reduction of Carbon Footprint at TNT Express With Help of More Efficient Planning of Collection and Delivery

'S-Hertogenbosch (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - The worldwide express delivery services provider TNT Express has signed an agreement with Quintiq to take further steps in its effort to reduce its carbon footprint. Through the use of the advanced planning software of Quintiq in the collection and delivery of parcels TNT Express hopes to further give shape to its program called "Planet Me" with the aim to reduce the emission of CO2. The Quintiq system will replace a large number of discrete planning systems that are now used throughout TNT Express's 900 depots in the world.

With the new Quintiq system TNT Express will support its collection and delivery process worldwide of 3.5 million parcels and documents. The planning solution will be used to create and maintain depot profiles and allocate parcels to rounds and drivers in an optimal way. By adopting Quintiq into the Common Systems strategy TNT Express will be able to improve productivity and save on managing a variety of different planning solutions. In addition it will be able to improve tracking and tracing as well as customer service.

Initially TNT Express planned to develop a new customized planning solution in-house as it was not convinced that a standard solution was able to support all its processes and meet all its requirements. Nevertheless Quintiq was able to demonstrate that its software suite for advanced planning and scheduling could deal with all TNT Express' issues.

The Quintiq real-time application suite offers company-wide transparency and access via interfaces for viewing all process-related decisions. Its wide range of functions allows users to react quickly to short-notice changes and contingencies. By making optimal use of each employee's skills, availability and productivity, no additional resources need to be scheduled as a buffer, thus enabling organizations to save time, reduce labour costs and increase customer satisfaction levels. Real-time management reporting permits ongoing monitoring based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

"TNT Express is very pleased to work together with Quintiq on improving its planning of collection and delivery, thereby reducing our carbon footprint," says Nigel Barton, Director Strategic Operations at TNT Express. "With the choice forQuintiq we now have a platform for all our IT planning applications within TNT Express and can thereby also increase our customer service levels."

"We are delighted that TNT Express has selected our suite for its planning process," says Arjen Heeres, COO at Quintiq. "TNT Express' choice underlines our ability to support companies with worldwide operations with their increasingly complex planning puzzle."

Steel giant ThyssenKrupp opts for Quintiq planning solution

's-Hertogenbosch, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Germany's biggest steel producer, ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, has decided to implement the Quintiq Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) solution to optimize capacity utilization at its steel mills as well as its supply chain procedures.

The highly complex processes involved in steel production make the planning and scheduling of the diverse stages of production - from iron right up to slab manufacture - a major challenge. To keep the company viable on the global market, all of the available resources need to be optimally deployed at all times. The APSsolution from Quintiq will help ThyssenKrupp to analyze every step of its process chain and plan each individual stage of production.

For some time, the central steel ordering division of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG has been looking for a suitable software tool for optimizing the yield efficiency of its slab production and improving delivery performance.

The main challenge for this steel scheduling would be to optimize the steel mill selection process, which involves spreading production orders over six continuous casters so that their capacities are optimally utilized.

One way of achieving this is by optimizing production parameters such as the duration of production sequences and the casting width, as well as further reducing the number of slabs in stock. Further improvements in delivery performance should be achieved by increasing the number of on-schedule slabs and by reducing the amount of orders shifted forward.

Building on the orders provided and consolidated by ThyssenKrupp's own systems, the Quintiq APS solution provides an analysis of order backlogs and draws up the initial rough sequencing. It sequences the continuous casters, generating weekly plans and the final casting programs. The software also performs an evaluation of ThyssenKrupp's key performance indicators (KPIs), productivity and delivery compliance. This KPI analysis functionality ascertains the quality of each sequence and the associated sequence planning in real time.

"With a detailed Proof of Concept, Quintiq clearly demonstrated that their flexible solution was perfectly geared to support our complex requirements. The weekly plans contain all the in-depth information, down to the final planning of sequences in continuous casting. The effects of short-term changes in production - such as smelting more or less steel than was planned during scheduling - are immediately reflected in the weekly schedules at each facility," said Frank Vidic, Head of IT/SCM/Order Processing at ThyssenKrupp Steel AG.

"The system also visualizes the current order backlog and evaluates the quality of our planning."

"Quintiq has already proven itself in the steel industry many times, showing that it really knows the specifics and problems that can appear in steel production and logistics. We're very proud to have won Germany's top steel producer and a major global player in the steel industry as our customer," said Dr. Victor Allis, CEO of Quintiq.

"Every one of our industry solutions is based on our extensive and detailed knowledge of the mission- critical business processes, thus enabling sound planning and targeted optimization in the desired areas."

ThyssenKrupp Steel started its implementation of the Quintiq Advanced Planning & Scheduling solution in July 2007. The system is expected to go live in the second quarter of 2008.
