Marvell transitions XScale based processors

Santa Clara, California, (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (Nasdaq: MRVL) a leader in storage, communications, and consumer silicon solutions, today announced that the Company is completing the planned transition of several mobile products to its customary fabrication facilities from Intel manufacturing operations.

Upon completion of this transition all of Marvell's communication processors will be manufactured utilizing the Company's standard fabrication partners.

Marvell has spent more than a year working on the porting of these products, going through an extensive qualification process. This time consuming effort was undertaken with extreme care to maintain a smooth customer supply chain by creating buffers on both sides with the Intel fabrication facilities and Marvell's customary channels. The Company feels confident that customer supply will not be affected.

"This transition has required a great deal of hard work and planning to ensure a seamless conversion for our customers. We are pleased to complete this transition well ahead of schedule," said Dr. Sehat Sutardja, Marvell's President and CEO.

"We expect that by converting these parts to our traditional fabrication partners, Marvell will be able to further lower its cost structure, improve profitability and support our efforts to bring Marvell in line with our financial model. This is an important achievement for Marvell and we remain committed to implementing further cost improvement initiatives that we began in the third quarter to improve our gross margin."

On November 8, 2006, Marvell completed the acquisition of Intel Corporation's cellular and applications processor business. Under the terms of the purchase agreement, Marvell entered into a supply agreement with Intel whereby Intel would fabricate and supply chips to Marvell through June 2008.

By leveraging strong relationships with manufacturing partners Marvell has successfully shortened the time needed for the planned transition of XScale based communications processors and certain application processors. The transition for the manufacture of communications processors is expected to be completed before the end of Q1 FY09. Marvell will continue to utilize Intel fabrication facilities to manufacture certain previous generation application processors.

Who's Green at CES This Year? - Marvell Displays Green Technology, Award-Winning Qdeo Video Processing, and Latest 802.11n Wi-Fi Technology at CES

Santa Clara, California (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL) announced today that it will be demonstrating its innovative and industry leading consumer and communications silicon for consumer electronics devices at CES.
Located in the South Hall, Booth #30651, Marvell will showcase the latest in smart digital green technology, its Qdeo(TM) video processing and the latest in 802.11n WLAN solutions, in addition to a wide cross-section of platforms based on the Company's core silicon technologies.

"This year Marvell has created several technology breakthroughs that we will be showcasing at CES including our award-winning Qdeo video processing technology and the latest in 802.11n WLAN solutions," said Sehat Sutardja, Ph.D. chairman, president and CEO of Marvell. "With our new green technology products, we have created both a technological and environmental breakthrough by developing some of the industry's most advanced energy saving silicon for power supplies. In addition, our commitment to the environment extends to our own power consumption with a number of energy-saving initiatives at our corporate headquarters."

To date, Marvell has developed an energy saving program that includes computerized lighting controls, which use 60 percent less power; the replacement of conventional lights with brighter, but power saving fluorescents; and advanced electronics ballasts that reduce energy use by 50 percent.

Marvell Smart Green Technology

At CES Marvell will display its recently introduced digital power factor correction (PFC) controllers, the Marvell(R) 88EM8041 and 88EM8011, designed to cut energy usage in notebook power adapters and desktop power supplies by up to 50 percent and reduce the carbon footprint for consumer electronics. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that there are 10 billion AC-DC power supplies used in computing, telecommunications and consumer electronics products worldwide.

According to the EPA, more efficient power supply designs could significantly reduce U.S. energy usage by saving nearly $3 billion and about 24 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. In addition, Marvell's PFC controllers help manufacturers eliminate up to 20 discrete components, which helps reduce design complexity, increase reliability and drive down manufacturing costs as well as size. Notebook users especially will like the convenience of a smaller, lighter power adapter.

High-Definition Video Solutions

Also at CES, Marvell will be receiving The Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity "Best of 2007 Video Processing Technology Award" for its innovative, industry-changing Qdeo video processing technology. Qdeo by Marvell delivers rich high-definition video through a suite of advanced processing technologies, providing quiet, natural video free of noise and artifacts. Unlike conventional video processors, Qdeo offers high-quality video for all of the source, display and content
options today, from portable media players (PMPs) to widescreenHDTVs. On display will be a wide range of customer products featuring Qdeo including: a dual-format HD-DVD and Blu-ray player; an HD video docking station for portable media players; and an LCD-TV reference design.

Marvell announces industry`s first 802.11n 450 Mbps solution

New Marvell TopDog 11n-450 Offers Peak Performance for PCs, Notebooks, Routers, Printers and Consumer Electronics Devices

Santa Clara, California (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL) announced today the Marvell(R) TopDog(R) 11n-450, an 802.11n 3x3 WLAN solution with three spatial streams, the industry's first 802.11n chip operating at 450 Megabits-per-second (Mbps).

With maximum bandwidth more than eight times faster than 802.11g 54 Mbps versions and 1.5 times faster than current 802.11n 300 Mbps offerings, the new product will enable significant performance enhancements for notebooks and desktop PCs, printers, routers, set top boxes, digital TVs, gaming devices and DVD players and recorders.

The TopDog 11n-450 provides 500 percent increased range over 802.11g, as well as 160 percent increased range compared to competing 802.11n solutions.

"Marvell is first-to-market with an 802.11n 450 Mbps solution so manufacturers can deliver industry-leading wireless range and performance to consumers who are seeking faster and more powerful Wi-Fi capabilities," said Sameer Bidichandani, senior director of technology strategy, Marvell Semiconductor.

"Compliant with the 802.11n specification, the new Marvell TopDog 11n-450 chip also offers Marvell-engineered enhancements to the specification, such as Special Time Block Coding (STBC), that helps maintain higher throughput over longer distances."

For example, a user can move further from their wireless source while performing real-time streaming video in multiple sessions, without experiencing weaker signal strength, freezing frames or slower throughput.

The TopDog 11n-450 delivers 3x3 capabilities with three transmitters and three receivers, and is built on 90-nanometer (nm) CMOS process technology making it a lower-power, lower-cost solution on top of its higher range and performance.

The product is backward-compatible with previous 802.11a, b, g and n versions and currently sampling. It is expected to begin shipping in volume next quarter.

Marvell will be showcasing the new Marvell TopDog 11n-450, as well as its cellular, video processing and power efficient products at CES Booth # 30651 in the South Hall.
